Chapter Eight

Twenty minutes later, Blake pulled into the driveway of Reagan’s craftsmen-styled ranch home that also served as the Precious Moments Events place of business. There was a classy, pink wooden sign with the company name at the edge of the driveway which was flanked with an abundance of spring flowers and solar spotlights on either side. She’d instructed him to follow the driveway around to the back of the house as that was her home entrance. The front door was for clients.

Normally he didn’t stay at the houseboat on Sunday nights, but he had an early morning appointment with a patient who lived on the island. His home was on the outskirts of Brunswick and would’ve taken him forty minutes to drive to the island depending upon traffic. Now, he was relieved in his decision as his concernment for Reagan filled him. It broke his heart to hear her cry, and he felt helpless on the phone because he needed to hold her. When he’d offered to come over, he’d expected her to say no because of her dating rule of not letting men know where she lived early in the relationship. And he respected that, but he needed to see her. The need to comfort her weighed heavy on him. He wanted to take away her pain and transfer it to him. Blake swore he heard a tad of shock in her voice when she said okay, and at first he thought her text message would probably be a change of mind not her address.

Blake parked next to a white Lexus GX 460 SUV with the company’s logo imprinted on the driver’s side. A motion light popped on and blanketed the area, causing his gaze to shift to Reagan standing on the wrap-around porch. Her swollen face and puffy, blood-shot eyes saddened him for a bit, but he was there to cheer her up. Putting on a bright and sincere smile, he exited the vehicle and began to walk briskly toward her.

Gathering her in his arms, he held Reagan close to his chest and she relaxed against him in a relieved exhale.

“Hey, sweetheart,” Blake greeted, cupping her chin and gently kissing her lips.

“Thank you for coming,” she said with a sniff.

“No need to thank me, darling. I just want to make you feel better.”

Reagan slid from his embrace and stepped aside so he could trail her into the house. Once she secured the locks and set the alarm, she motioned for him to follow her from the mudroom which led to a small sunroom off from the kitchen. Blake tried to keep his focus and remember why he was there, but watching her hips sway while her butt bounced under the blue silk material caused a stir in his groin.

Shoving his hands in his pants pockets to keep them from ripping off her nightgown, Blake studied the room briefly as the tranquil furnishings fit her whimsical personality. A plush, comfy beige couch sat in the corner with an antique wood table in front of it.
